Elevate Your Sales Training: How Social Learning Drives Real Results for Global Teams

Social learning: a tool our multinational client used to transform their sales enablement training. The result? Over 5,700 peer-reviewed videos submitted and 200,000 views in just five years.

Observing their peers in an interactive environment allowed our clients’ teams to learn new skills quickly.

Social learning and its impact on sales enablement teams

Social learning goes beyond traditional training by allowing teams to learn from each other through observation and interaction.

Here’s how social learning is incorporated:

  1. Attention

Skill acquisition, team engagement, and ongoing development in revenue teams is an ongoing challenge, particularly for sales roles.

Social learning alleviates such stress as it uses the power of observation to allow teams to pick up new learnings and skills from the world around them, even if they have never done it personally.

  2. Retention

By witnessing their peers utilize a myriad of skills, sales teams can observe and pick up said techniques from each other.

As team members process skills they’ve witnessed, they can recall it when presented with a similar situation.

Learning is instant and relevant, allowing teams to immediately adopt the best practices when meeting with prospective clients.

  3. Reproduction

In relevant situations, team members can reproduce the new skill. New sales techniques, mindsets, or behaviors are best learnt through practice.

  4. Motivation

Teams are encouraged to take initiative to upskill and improve their sales techniques when they witness others being rewarded or penalized for related behavior.

Real-world application of social learning: How social learning is used by our clients

Navarro and Associates’ clients struggle the most when their teams have to learn completely new concepts.

Luckily, their bespoke sales training curriculum is empowered by social learning. Here’s how.

  1. Social learning has been integrated in our client programs since 2019
Microsoft Flip Grid (now discontinued): clients were able to collect in-class video submissions, promoting peer sharing and enhancing skill acquisition.

  2. Engagement led by social learning

During the Covid-19 pandemic, our clients had over 100 classes and thousands of student submissions, drastically improving the interactivity and insightfulness of online learning.

Video submissions provided managers clear understanding of their teams’ strengths and weaknesses

Managers were given insight to the understanding and skills their teams possessed. Being able to review work is extremely important, as highlighted in the Know, Show, Do, Review (KSDR) instructional design model.

  3. The incorporation of Padlet

Since June 2024, training programs for our clients feature Padlet, a social learning tool that allows students to create and watch video submissions.

Strategic outcomes of social learning

  1. Ease of learning
Through observation and social learning, clients report that students can better internalize, imitate, share, and receive feedback on their learnings.

  2. Managerial insights
Our clients also report that social learning doesn’t just make classes interactive for students, but also allows managers an eye-opening view of baseline skills each member has.

  3. Encouraging curiosity and embracing learning
There is also a keen interest among students regarding how their teammates approach and perform assignments, clients say. This highlights the social aspect of social learning, as the student curiosity drove them to view more video submissions.
